During a process improvement project for an aircraft engine repair facility, I have learned an interesting lesson that I would like to pass along. It feels like this lesson can be used in a broad range of industries. I am simulating the facility so that I can see how the impacts of changes in one department effect other departments.
This is the place where I will be blogging about process improvement solutions that I find using the six sigma process simulation software ProcessModel

Process Improvement of a of Pre Op/Post Op and Surgery System with Simulation Modeling
I recently performed a process improvement/simulation study of pre op and post op area that serviced a series of surgical suites. I learned a great deal about sizing of the combined system. What had previously been an almost impossible system to understand, with standard operations management tools, became simple with simulation. I analyzed the system and recommended room quantities with a six step simulation model. Because the model was so simple and results applicable to so many people, I wanted to share my success. I hope you find this helpful.

Using Alternate GET Order When Process Mapping
The ProcessModel simulation software allows several different
ways in process mapping to get a resource to work on an entity in an activity.

Creating An Activity That Has A Dynamic Capacity During Process Simulation
You would have thought that creating a dynamic activity
in ProcessModel simulation software would be as simple as declaring an
attribute or a variable and using it as the capacity of the activity, it isn’t.

How to Create Arrival Patterns for an Emergency Room in ProcessModel Part 1
In a recent process improvement project, I was required to
turn 6 months of arrival information from an emergency room into entries for a
simulation model. This is difficult because there is variability from week to
week, Mondays are different from Fridays and there is significant variation throughout
the day.
